What's Actually Behind the Numbers

A launch monitor is only as good as what feeds it. Here's the instrumentation we run, and the routine that keeps it accountable to real outdoor ball flight.

Instrumentation

One Reads Flight, One Reads Geometry

Our radar-based monitor stays locked onto the ball from the moment it leaves the clubface, pulling speed, launch, spin, and the entire curve of flight from one uninterrupted track rather than a single freeze-frame.

Alongside it, a mechanical lie-angle gauge confirms static and dynamic lie plus where the face actually made contact. With both running, a questionable read from one gets caught by the other before it ever reaches your printed card.

Three Habits That Protect the Data

Scheduled Outdoor Trips

On a set rotation, a fitter takes reference clubs to a real range and compares outdoor flight against what the same clubs reported indoors, watching for any drift.

Mat and Net Upkeep

Hitting mats and the return net get inspected for wear on a schedule, since either one going soft can quietly bend launch and spin readings.

Cross-Instrument Checks

Every swing gets compared automatically between the monitor and the gauge. Disagreement between the two triggers a manual look instead of getting logged as-is.

Why Climate Control

Air Density Moves the Ball More Than You'd Guess

Warm, humid air off the bay in July lets a driver carry noticeably farther than the same swing on a dry 20°F morning in January — not because anything about the swing changed, but because the air itself did. Holding room temperature constant strips that variable out of every reading we take.

It also means numbers from a session in winter and a session in summer are actually the same currency — not two different readings quietly shaped by the weather outside.
